My Testimony of the Book of Mormon
I was talking to Dad, and he put to me the question, "What did Joseph Smith mean when he said the Book of Mormon is the most correct?" I was a little confused by this question, because Joseph says exactly what he means in the very next phrase: "a man will get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts than by any other book." I told Dad this, and he said I was exactly correct. Joseph Smith did not mean it contains the most correct historical facts. He meant it contains the fullness of the gospel, the testimony of Jesus Christ, the means to obtaining eternal life and returning to Heavenly Father.
Also of note, Joseph Smith said "by abiding by its precepts." It is not enough simply to read the book. We must take its words into ourselves, live them, and through the power of Christ and the Holy Ghost become converted (changed) into a new creature, one capable of inheriting the Kingdom of God.
I remember for Young Women's Personal Progress, one of the projects was to read the Book of Mormon, and follow Moroni's invitation to pray and ask God if it is true. I knelt down to do this, and prayed "Heavenly Father, is the Book of Mormon true?" The answer came in clear words to my mind "Why are you asking me? You already know it is."
So this I leave with you. I know the Book of Mormon is true. I know that Joseph Smith translated it by the gift and power of God. I know this is the true and restored church of Jesus Christ. I know President Nelson is God's true and living prophet today. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
